On this page we outline the therapies Cornwall Psychotherapy offers. Many of these therapies can be offered in a 'brief' model. Brief therapy involves attending 50-60 minute sessions for anything from 6 sessions. We provide longer term support for more entrenched or severe difficulties or for personal development. All our therapies are delivered remotely by video call or telephone.
Counselling
Counselling is a way of talking through feelings and problems in a constructive way. A counsellor will help you to explore your difficulties and empower you to find your own way forward. Counsellors provide a space where you can speak confidentially and without being judged in order to work through your difficulties.
Counselling Psychology
Counselling psychology can help you to examine mental health issues and explore the underlying problems that may have caused them. This process takes place within a confidential counselling relationship.
Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT)
DIT is a 16 session evidence-based treatment which aims at relieving distress, helping you to better understand yourself and others and to function better in your relationships. DIT focuses on the common link between psychological distress and relationship problems. When a person is able to deal with repeated patterns in their relationships more effectively, his or her psychological symptoms often improve. Your therapist will help you find more appropriate ways of being and coping with difficult relationships in your life.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR)
EMDR is a treatment for symptoms of trauma including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and anxiety disorders. EMDR works on the source of the trauma to de-sensitise the memory of a traumatic event(s). It is a technique which can be used as part of a treatment or as a stand alone treatment.
Gestalt Psychotherapy
Gestalt Psychotherapy is a holistic approach which aims to explore how we relate to the world. It's holistic nature includes valuing all aspects of the individual; psychological, emotional and spiritual. It emphasises the importance between the individual and the environment they are in and recognises how we influence and are influenced by our circumstances. It is a practical, creative and experimental approach to therapy.
Gestalt therapists explore how our past experience may be played out in the present. In this way we can look out for repeating patterns which are no longer useful and may be blocking satisfaction and fulfilment.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy works to uncover the unconscious feelings underlying psychological distress. The therapeutic relationship is central to this approach in which the therapist will work to help analyse your struggles, particularly in your relationships with others. This approach is suitable for people who wish to understand more about how their difficulties have come about and to work on deep seated issues. It is suitable for those who wish to talk about past as well as present difficulties in order to relieve their distress. For more information, please see the link below.
